Swedish FIKA

In Sweden we have something called FIKA [fee:kah], which is part of everyday life and a big part of our culture. It’s when we take time for a colleague or friend and connect over a coffee (or tea), ideally enjoyed with  a yummy baked treat.

It’s so much more than enjoying the coffee and cookie, FIKA allows us to slow down and appreciate the goods things in life.  Many Swedes consider it  essential to FIKA everyday and a lot of  companies add a clause to contracts stating that employees are entitled to FIKA breaks.
